Eye TV Guide update (tvtv.nl no longer working)

I left a support message on the tvtv site a few days ago, and today I received this message :

Geachte,

Vriendelijke groeten,

tvtv Suport Team

It’s nice of them to respond – let’s hope that it gets sorted out soon – on the tvtv.nl website it seems that the guides are already available again, however I didn’t get an update through my EyeTV guide.

Eye tv guide ( EPG from tvtv.nl ) no longer working

Something momentous happened the first of January 2009. Something enormous.

The eye tv guide (from Elgato) no longer updates with the electronic program guides (EPG) from tvtv.nl, a website that just about every Electronic Program Guide provider uses in the backend to supply the actual program guides of all the television channels. I’m not the only one who noticed.

All the benelux channels seem to have disappeared, and there is no notice on tvtv.nl about something being wrong. Just a blank page. Just BBC One and a few others are still available.

This affects all my devices : my Elgato EyeTV can no longer record my csi episodes automatically for my iPhone, my Kiss hard-disk DVD recorder no longer has access to it’s schedules, I’ll have to fall back on buying a magazine to find out what’s on, and program manually like in old times…

I hope this gets sorted out soon, but I’m not holding my breath in till then…

For those people who are also searching for a solution, you can contact TVTV.nl by going here and filling in the support form.

The new trend : old women with boob implants!

Or as Michel says it (Delicious entry on january 1, 2009) : My Eyes! My Eyes! It burns!!!

I always thought that this would come : once those beautiful lipo-sucked, collagen-pumped women turn old and wrinkly, the only thing that is left on them is their breast and/or cheek implants… Donatella Versace is living proof of that…

Urrrggh…

Good Old Games (GoG) just had another customer

Good Old Games (or GoG as they call themselves) sells old or semi-old games over the internet, DRM-free for between 4.99 and 10.99 dollars. They come with downloadable artwork and manuals, patched to the latest version available for Windows XP and Vista. I have been following their (at first private) beta since 99 days (so my account says) and just bought my first game – Darkstar One, a spacesim.

You can download them as much as you want, install them where you want. They are yours to keep.

And for the pirates out there – why should you pirate stuff if you can pick it up legally for 10 bucks and at the same time support them so they can release more old games ?

For any old gamer, picking up games like Fallout 1 and 2, Abe’s Oddworld Oddessy, it’s mana from heaven !

Sam and Tom

Sam is learning to remember and is starting to associate things. The change is remarkable in a few months. He might see a clown perform a song and at that moment is completely awestruck by it, but a month or so later he is belting out parts of the song !
He can see a play field with a hillock on it with a tube sticking out of it and suddenly start talking about the teletubbies he saw days ago.
Tom is a very good learner in school and is very interested in sums, a bit less so in reading but all in all doing admirably!

When the lady smiles

Golden Earring : when the lady smiles.

A tune that still resonates in me….

When the lady smiles, you know it drives me wild, her lips are warm and resourceful, when her fingertips go drawing circles in the night, and the mood is soft and sensual. hhmm, And I love it, yeah I loove it, it’s the answer to all my dreams, every time I feel like the earth is shaking, it doesn’t matter, glasses falling, I hear it shatter…

It sure brings back memories, the way I felt when I was eighteen…

Running update December 2008

Pffr.

Pffr just about sums it all up.

Somewhere end of September, beginning October, my knee went from stable when running with a bandage to painful in one night. I had run 3 times that week, plus a first session of Tai Chi. My guess is that the number of runs plus the Tai Chi session did it for me – I probably overstressed my muscles afterwards when taking the ‘rest’ posture in that first Tai Chi session, a friend of mine explained to me that I was overdoing it. Your knees shouldn’t be further than your toes when standing in rest, and I probably was not doing that.

A few days later I woke up convinced that my knee had somehow been dislocated during my sleep and that my kneecap was hanging loose – it’s an excruciating pain !

A visit to the doctor the morning after gave me the verdict : tendinitis in the knee, an injection with Cortisone, a painkiller prescription and the recommendation to ‘give it plenty of rest’.
It took about a month before I could walk without a limp, and in November anytime I ran for the train I had to cope with pains afterwards.

Since a week or so, my knee feels normal again, or at least no more pain. Even a run for the train has no painful effects. I’ll wait a bit more, though. And as a side effect, I’ll probably start floating off the ground – I’m ballooning again with no or barely any exercise and will probably float like a blimp off the ground after all the festivities of the New Year…

Flex and Google App Engine are working together for me !

After using Flex for a bit, and blogging here that the backend is not so extensive, I discovered that Google has brought out the Google App Engine (GAE) sometime this year. It allows you to write the backend in Python and the frontend in html or ajax or even flex ! It even comes with a templating engine, is currently in beta, and is free !

It should be the best of both worlds, if I can get it work together.

There’s actually not that many examples floating on the net that go into much detail into how to set this up. Lots of references to PyAMF (Python with Action Messaging Format so that it can talk Flash), but I find the examples are almost all from people in the know, and for a ‘script’ programmer like me I sure could use some (very) detailed explanations !

I finally found a good example of a simple Flex client that connected to a python Google App Engine on this site. After two nights of puttering around, I finally got my modified example to work and understood what was happening (I’m still learning flex, actionscript3 and now GAE – it’s a bit much sometimes). I actually write the xml back via a python hack where I do a loop and write the tags one by one… tss, I’m sure there’s a better way (pyAMF ?).

Now I still need to get my head around what PyAMF actually does and how it integrates between Flex and GAE. This seems to be a nice example from the PyAMF wiki.
