Updates Galore

I’ve just done a number of much needed upgrades to my blog :

There. Not bad, eh ? Now all it needs is some decent writing, heh.

Update : seems that I managed to kill the direct link of the posts. Hmmm. An update of the permalink structure via my wp-admin pages fixed that right quick.

Update 2 : Weathericon does not display an icon, hmf. This might be a problem because of the theme, I’ll need to check. Update 2 update : in windows xp it shows. Funny.

Update 3 : I can upload my logo on there, but it’s not exactly whipped up juuuuust right.

Tom has gotten the pins out

As I wrote before, Tom had broken his right arm early in July, and yesterday (Thursday august 23) he went into day surgery to remove the pins that were holding the broken bones together.

Everything went well and he was back home when I came back from work. Dolores told me he was a very, very brave boy and that he hadn’t cried at all.

His arm is still stiff though, but Sunday we can remove the wound dressings and then he has one week before needing to go back to  the clinic (to see if he needs kine or not).

Bioshock

For the moment my dual-booting iMac is single booting into Windows XP for the foreseeable time : after playing the demo of BioShock, today (launchday of Bioshock in Europe) I went out to the local fnac and bought it. I did waffle a bit about buying it at first as the game itself has a very, very dark atmosphere (little girls with big syringes extracting fluids from dead people for example) and I get influenced by stuff like that very easely, but the demo and the excellent reviews got me to hand over my cash…

Not the collectors edition, I’m not that crazy anymore.

So don’t expect any immediate email response for the following few weeks…

Internet and the computer are sorta last place for now…

The No BullSh*t review of the iPhone

Aaaah – a refreshing read, this ! Gizmodo reviews the iPhone and attaches some conclusions.

For those of us who’ll have to wait till at least 2008 to get our grubby hands on it, we can only hope that by then the missing functionalities will have been added !

Not a runner. Yet.

I’ve just went running for the 26th time and when I came back and uploaded the data, the nikeplus website surprised me with a banner congratulating me with running the 100 kilometers – on to 250 !

Strange how I didn’t notice that since April I’ve run 100 kilometers !!! It’s incredible when I look back on it, but it’s really motivating (it’s slightly demotivating though when you look at the leaderboard and see the top 10 people have run each more than 4000 kilometers). I can feel like sh*te and be tired from a long day at work, but still want to go out and run, so I guess I can say (for now) : yes, I am addicted.

Nike has launched some new adverts – I like them all, especially the new mom and french Sofia, but this one tops them all (you need sound though !) :

Tom broke his arm

Yesterday Tom was in the care center that is organised by the school, for the second day. In the afternoon, while playing, he fell from a climbing ladder and one way or another broke his arm, just above the elbow; my guess from hearing him recount it and reading the report provided by the care center admin is that he was climbing the fitness ladder attached to the wall, and perhaps misjudged a step and fell while hanging on the ladder by one arm.

Dolores was first alerted around noon, after the care admin had already visited a doctor which asked them to go immediately to ’emergency’.

The pressure has snapped the upper arm bone just above the elbow; a nasty fracture apparently, which can’t be set simply in plaster; it needed to be set with metal splints via an operation- ouch. Plus they’ll need to be taken out again somewhere around september.

🙁

Tom has braved the operation and I saw him yesterday after he woke up again – he’s fine, and very, very brave, but his vacation will not be the carefree one we envisioned for him.

Still, I’m very happy he didn’t hurt his head or fracture a leg – at least with the arm, he’ll be able to move around and not be stuck to the sofa.
